Tesla lawyers claim Elon Musk’s past statements about self-driving safety could just be deep fakes
According to Reuters and Bloomberg, Tesla's lawyers have argued that Elon Musk's statements about the capabilities of Tesla's Autopilot software cannot be trusted as they could be deep fakes. Tesla utilized this contention to legitimize why Musk shouldn't give a statement as a feature of a claim that faults Tesla's Autopilot programming for a lethal accident in 2018.The lawsuit is related to the death of Walter Huang, an Apple engineer, who died while driving a Tesla Model X. Huang's family lawyers argue that Tesla's driver assist software was at fault and they seek to interview Musk regarding statements he made about the safety of this software, including a claim he made in a 2016 interview that "a Model S and Model X, at this point, can drive autonomously with greater safety than a person." Despite Tesla's argument, a judge has issued a tentative order for Musk to be deposed.
